What do you make of Tim Hortons' new lasagna?
Where reviews are concerned right now, much of the world is pondering the fate of The Rum Diary or last night’s Game 5 of the World Series.
Canadians? Well, we won’t stop until we’ve assessed one thing, above all: Tim Hortons’ new beef lasagna.
Surely, as MSN highlighted Tuesday, much of the country is abuzz over the coffee chain’s new menu add, which is either the greatest thing since McPizza or an ill-advised step from the franchise’s comfort zone.
What do the initial reviews of the pasta dish say? Of course, they are mixed.
The most encompassing evaluation of Tim’s lasagna to date comes courtesy the Financial Post, which sent its Investment blog team out to try the $4.99 pasta casserole.
*Bing: What is the best-selling fast food item?
“Ultimately, it tastes pretty much exactly like the pasta I make at home,” opines Eric Lam, “which I suppose is as much an indictment of my cooking ability as it is on Tim Hortons’.”
Adds the FP’s Jonathan Ratner: “The portion size was adequate and the pasta was cooked properly, but it was more than a little light on the ricotta – one reason why the lasagna name doesn’t hold.”
Indeed, while MSN can’t confess to having tasted Tim’s new lasagna, the enduring theme from early Internet reviews is that a) the ricotta is skimped, and b) the ground beef is nice.
Still, it’ll take plenty for the dish to make strides on Tim Hortons’ menu, which – where lunch is concerned – is led by another ground beef-heavy meal, chili.
According to a CBC poll on the dish, while 29 per cent of respondents said they’d try the lasagna if it looked good on another customer’s plate, a further 25 per cent replied, “No, what’s next? Curry? Fried chicken? Stick to your niche.”
Have you tried Tim’s new lasagna? If so, how is it? If not, will you give it a shot?

By the way, McPizza was done by MacDonalds from 1992-1999. Maybe what's next is McSushi

I have had the lasagna several times and loved it !! That they have now added the garlic bread (which they didn't when I tested it) is a great addition !!
Great addition to the menu !!

I had to give it a try, just out of curiosity! Sorry, but it tastes like a can of chef boyardee beefaroni, it's awful!! And to add insult to injury, they serve it with a spoon! A spoon for lasagna????

Why not? As long as the beef is ALL Canadian I think it will work.

Likely too full of carbs and salt for my taste. Their breakfast is so salty I am surprised that everyone walking out doesn't die of high BP

Everyone's right. It tastes exactly like they opened a can. It needs tons of mozzarella cheese melted on top.

Glad you asked. I said to my husband, "this is horrible, did they get it from a can"? I thought, how could they even call it lasagna...there is NO cheese whatsoever.

It's like Hamburger Helper lasagna. It just doesn't work without all the cheese in my opinion. The chili is great though! What I wish Tim's would do are some salads! Give us one healthy choice!

Haven't tried it yet, but what I would like Tim Horton to have is toast and creton. We were travelling across Canada this summer and in the province of Quebec they had toast and creton on their menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see this. How come not all provinces have the same things on their menu. We were happy to have a different thing for breakfast. Wish we had it at our Tim's at home.

If their new dish is anything like the Chili; Hell yes I'll try it

Not a big stretch-they already have chili, not a big deal. Good lasagna, something different at Timmy's is always welcome, as I eat there lots (like every other Canadian.) Don't see what the fuss is about.

I'm on the road everyday and sometimes I drive thu for a chicken snack but on a cold rainy day last week I stop in to get a bowl of chili which I like BUT they were out, so I said yes to the lasagna. Well I was very glad because I that lasagna was good and I will get it again!!!
Thanks Tims

I tried the lasagna, wasn't the greatest. I tasted better from a can! The garlic toast that came with it was so small it was barely enough for the amount of lasagna given.
