Yes, Virginia, that HST cheque actually is in the mail
Ontario is now sending out the second of three Ontario Sales Tax Transition Benefit cheques to those who qualify.
The temporary relief plan was introduced by the McGuinty government to help take some of the sting out of the HST, a controversial tax change that took effect last July, and win back the hearts and minds of Ontario voters.
The benefit goes out in three instalments with a total maximum of $300 for individuals and $1,000 for families, including those headed up by single parents. Most consumers can expect their current cheque to be $100, whereas families will get $335.
To qualify for the current payout – which is not a taxable benefit and doesn’t count as income either – you must have been a resident of Ontario at the end of November and have filed income tax returns for the past two years.
You’re out of luck, however, if you’re under the age of 18 (unless you’re supporting a child), have been in jail for more than 90 days this year or are behind in your child support payments.

That's really great the rich Albertans paying for a province that can't manage their money...
so please quit crying and let us run the oilsands to pay for all this mess.

Well unfortunately my family does not qualify for the HST rebate because our combined income is above the limit to qualify for a refund. Why should we not qualify for the refund, we still pay the HST on everything that we buy so because we have good jobs we don't get the refund. We should actually get more of a refund because we actually buy more items and pay more HST. Whats fair is fair give everyone the HST, I believe the Government owes us for last year and this year. Come McGinty pay up you cheap bastard.

It would have been much better if the government instead of raising taxes, would have reduced their administrative overheads and bring down exorbitant salaries, allowances and pensions of politicians to a realistic level. The gravy train must stop by reducing MPPs and bureaucrats. Thanks

When will people in Ontario and the rest of Canada learn , The Liberals are not called TAX AND SPEND Liberals for nothing. Canadian need to revolt against Dolton and his group of Liberals who always think our Money belongs to them, and they know how best top spend it, You know giving it away to people who do not want to work.

Im from B.C and our right wing Fascist government goes ahead and legislates whatever they want. This government needs to be terminated at any cost.We cant even have a glass of wine for dinner without the risk of loosing everything if we drive. The hst is cripiling businesses and families. We are taxed to death. The police force is a bunch of inept thugs that run rampant doing nothing but enforcing prehistoric rules based on collecting taxes. We dont get an HST check or even asked it is decreed. This is not democracy at all.

you notice the provinces that are run by liberals are the ones that wanted the HST. I think it was for when the liberals got into power in the federal gov't everything would be in place and God knows what they could do then to get more money out of us. Sask. is not a liberal province and they saw the future of the HST. Way to go Sask. you're smarter then the rest of us idiots in bc and ont. Keep voting liberal suckers and they'll spend your money and when they want more they will increase the HST and tell you they won't increase the GST.

Vote Tim Hudak in the next Ontario Provincial Election. (Dalton McGuinty has done in this province.) The HST was Mr. McGuinty's idea. Mr. Harper just agreed as liberals, over time, put this province in way too much debt. Tim Hudak has already stated he would have a very hard time eliminating the HST. (No other party is willing to do it either.) However, Mr. Hudak is talking about lowering the HST. I'm all for that. If you want to know more about Tim Hudak and what he stands for, just punch in his name in your computer. He sounds like a breath of fresh air to me. I also agree with the person who said VOTE at the next election. Our turnout in my area was less than 30% last time. That's bad.

the premiere of ontario is simply trying to buy votes for the next election by giving these rebates. I have bee a liberal party supporter for 39 years but this time i will vote aginst the party for introducing hst.hope they loose by wide margin the election as power has gone toomuch in the premiers head.

just my view..I think the people need to start thinking for whats right for Canada and be rid of PC or Liberal, both parties are for the rich who get money when they lend and again gain when we spend it. As for the people on assistive benefits not all are asking for handouts some are not able to work! myself i vote NDP as i am for the working and the little people, and i have a voice and i speak up for what i believe in, yet i also know some people carve their choices in stone and i think to each their own, i have better things to do than argue lifes to short to waste.......
