Consider filing your taxes online this year
As a matter of fact, more than 65 per cent of tax returns are now filed electronically. It's safe, secure, easy and convenient!
And with tax season being just around the corner, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) offers some handy tips to help you file your 2012 income tax online.
To get started, make sure you visit their website to learn about ways to help reduce your taxes. Then, gather all your receipts, information slips and a copy of last year's return to use as a guide.
Before filing your taxes online make sure all your personal information, including your address, is up-to-date with CRA. You can revise your information prior to filing your return by using My Account.
To file your income tax online you will require a CRA certified software package or a web application. The CRA has a list of software and web application options for you to consider including some options that are cost free.
Whichever one you select, it will guide you through the process, do the calculations for you, and ensure that you don't overlook any credits or benefits that you may have otherwise overlooked.
Previously, people required a web access code to file their return online. Now all that is required is your Social Insurance Number, check. Your date of birth, check. And you're on your way!
Another bonus to filing your return online is that you can receive your refund faster! If you file online and register for direct deposit into your bank account you could see your refund in about eight days.
Now that's convenience!
You can file your 2012 income tax online from February 11, 2013 until November 30, 2013.
