Free haircuts if you buy their shampoo

By James Havers, Sympatico / MSN Finance

Excuse me if I don't get excited by the offer of a free haircut.

The last time I got this offer, it was from a roommate in university. And I learned then and there the best things in life aren't free at all.

'Free' came at the cost of looking like a two-year-old cut my hair. Free hurt.

So it was with a great deal of trepidation that I read about a new offer from Herbal Essences promising a complimentary haircut with the purchase of any two specially marked 300 mL shampoos or conditioners, one specially advertized 1.18L shampoo or conditioner, or one specially marked hair colour.

You send the UPC code, and they send you a voucher to choose from a select number of salons.

I just hope my old roomie didn't pursue a career in hair care.
