Frugal couple comes up with ultra low cost wedding
Something old, something new, something borrowed ... but particularly something free.
What first started off as a joke quickly snowballed into major savings for one Ottawa couple. Last fall, Jordan Kent and Brian Baas set out to see if they could create a cost-free wedding.
The idea, which they called Project Priceless, was to get married as little as possible by borrowing, trading and accepting donations of items and services.
So they started a blog, set up a Facebook page and put notices on some local bargain site like Kijiji and Usedottawa, all hoping to get a bit of a leg up.
Everyone who contributed to the occasion was recognized on the blog, particularly those businesses or artisans who stepped up to help who get links to their websites as well.
Buoyed by their success, the couple has now launched The Nest – a project dedicated to chronicling their lives as frugal newlyweds.
Have you gone the frugal wedding route? With any success?

They are shameless, stingy people. That is not frugal, taking advantage of other people for their own pockets. What a bunch of creepy ones!
I bet they are not poor. Being frugal is one thing. Asking other people to do your own wedding for free is stingy and pathetic.

As a wedding DJ I've seen some that have hit the stratosphere at 30.000.00 and I've seen some done for 2000.00, there's a lot you can't compare if every little detail is takin into account but for just the sheer enjoyment of the celebration in many cases they're the same.

I fail to see how that is shameless. The people who helped did so of their of free (good) will! I love seeing people come together to help others!! In my opinion this is an ideal way to live. Free of consumerism and willing to help others by sharing items and talents. Good for them!

Even if all of their wedding stuff are charitable at least they were able to make their dream wedding. They even set up a blog just to recognize the people who have helped them.

Well, wedding can be quite expensive, but in case you both are quite frugal then you can save money and at the same time have a great celebration. Some people borrow money for a weddind but I do not think that starting a family life with debt in a pocket is the besxt option. It's better tp be patient and relistic and save some money to have a celebration. It's possible to avoid borrowing money if you will make some afforts, also yoyu can take to family and friends and ask if they can help you a little. Wedding also needs a business plan and it's important to make a suitable budget and avoid luxuries if you can not afford that.
