Frugal couple comes up with ultra low cost wedding

Something old, something new, something borrowed ... but particularly something free.

What first started off as a joke quickly snowballed into major savings for one Ottawa couple. Last fall, Jordan Kent and Brian Baas set out to see if they could create a cost-free wedding.

The idea, which they called Project Priceless, was to get married as little as possible by borrowing, trading and accepting donations of items and services.

So they started a blog, set up a Facebook page and put notices on some local bargain site like Kijiji and Usedottawa, all hoping to get a bit of a leg up.

They got their wish, big time. People came up with wedding dresses, a tux, a purse for the bride, cash donations, photography and decorations.

Everyone who contributed to the occasion was recognized on the blog, particularly those businesses or artisans who stepped up to help who get links to their websites as well.

Buoyed by their success, the couple has now launched The Nest – a project dedicated to chronicling their lives as frugal newlyweds.

Have you gone the frugal wedding route? With any success?
